Abstract
The high amount of waste, especially HDPE bottle waste and tire waste, has resulted in an increasing amount of waste that is difficult to decompose and recycle, making Indonesia the second largest contributor to inorganic waste in the world. This research aims to utilize HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) bottle cap waste and steel fiber from vehicle tire waste in composite manufacturing as an effort to reduce waste. The volume variation of steel fiber as reinforcement is used to determine its effect on tensile strength and hardness with volume variations of 3%, 5%, and 7%. In this study, tensile strength testing was carried out based on ASTM D3039 standards using furnace and stamping methods. Based on the data obtained, the highest tensile strength and hardness values were produced at 7% steel fiber volume variation, with an average tensile strength of 6.25 MPa and elastic modulus value of 220.62 Hv, while the highest elastic modulus was at 5% reinforcement variation with a value of 73.32 MPa.
