Abstract
Background: Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21 (trisomy 21), resulting from a failure in chromosomal separation during the formation of the egg or sperm cell. This condition leads to a total of 47 chromosomes instead of the normal 46. Purpose: This study aims to explore the physiotherapy management for a child with Down Syndrome at YPAC Jakarta. Methods: A descriptive case study with a qualitative approach was used to systematically describe the interventions provided, including Neuro Development Treatment (NDT) and sensory integration therapy. One pediatric patient participated in this case study. Assessment parameters included sensory examination, range of motion, and the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM). Results: There is an improvement in motor skills, particularly in sitting ability, where the child was able to maintain an independent sitting position for 2–3 seconds. Additionally, sensory issues related to the proprioceptive and vestibular systems also showed progress, with better postural control and balance responses. Conclusion: Consistent and gradual physiotherapy interventions, along with active parental involvement in following the home program provided by the physiotherapist, contributed positively to the child’s motor development.
