Abstract

Transportation plays a crucial role in daily life, especially in the transportation of heavy goods and logistics distribution, which require vehicles with high structural strength. One of the main components in heavy vehicles such as trucks is the Ladder Frame Chassis, which must have strong welded joints to withstand heavy loads. This study analyzes the strength of welded joints. Welding was performed using various welding current variations with the GMAW method on the tensile strength of T-joint welds on Ladder Frame Chassis made from JIS G3101 SS400 material. Testing was carried out at three welding current variations, namely 72 Amperes, 85 Amperes, and 104 Amperes, using ER70S-6 welding wire with a diameter of 1 mm and a T-joint design. The results showed that a welding current of 85 Amperes produced the highest maximum tensile strength of approximately 130.4 kN (13.28 tons), with a stress at the highest strain of 293.31 MPa and the highest ultimate tensile strength of 434.83 MPa, indicating that this welding current is optimal for obtaining weld joints with the best quality and durability. This study recommends using this optimal welding current in the production process to achieve strong and durable weld joints.
