Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive, longterm lung disease characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation due to damage to the airways and alveoli. The main causes include prolonged exposure to harmful particles or gases, genetic factors, and abnormal lung development. Objective: This study aims to explore the physiotherapy management of a case of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Method: This research is a case study involving a male patient who received physiotherapy interventions including Infrared, High Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation (HFCWO), breathing exercises, stretching exercises, and stationary bicycle therapy. These interventions aimed to reduce shortness of breath and improve thoracic cage mobility. Results: After three sessions of physiotherapy using Infrared, HFCWO, breathing exercises, stretching exercises, and stationary bicycle therapy, the interventions proved effective in reducing dyspnea and improving thoracic cage movement. Dyspnea was evaluated using the Borg Scale and the Dyspnea Severity Scale, while thoracic mobility was assessed with a midline measurement tool, and daily activities were evaluated using the Barthel Index. Conclusion: The use of Infrared, High Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation (HFCWO), breathing exercises, stretching exercises, and stationary bicycle therapy was highly beneficial in addressing the patient’s clinical problems.
