Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the structural strength of the crane barge deck under loading from two types of cranes: Knuckle Boom Crane and Hydraulic Crane. The evaluation was carried out using the numerical Finite Element Method (FEM) with the aid of Maxsurf Multiframe software. The main focus of this research is to analyze the influence of crane type, variation in boom position (working radius), and deck plate thickness on stress distribution and bending moment within the deck structure. The structural model refers to the actual design of the crane barge from PT Baramulti, with dimensional parameters adjusted according to the limitations of the software version. The loading was applied incrementally, ranging from 0 to 30 tons, and the results were analyzed based on the allowable stress limits according to the standards of Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) and Registro Italiano Navale (RINA). Simulation results showed that high-lifting-capacity cranes such as the 60T Knuckle Boom Crane generated stress that exceeded the safety limits set by BKI and RINA. However, after structural reinforcements were applied—such as the addition of stiffeners, increased deck plate thickness, and the use of AH36 material—the maximum stress was reduced by approximately 26%, bringing the structure back within safe limits for loads up to 20 tons. This study emphasizes the importance of structural design that considers crane type, actual loading conditions, and material specifications to ensure the safe operation of crane barges.
