Abstract

As populist groups increasingly fragment, the 2024 European Parliament elections mark a critical point in the evolution of supranational right-wing politics. The absence of a unified group among populist parties indicates a failure to form an effective common front in the face of the dynamics of EU politics. Divergent national interests, leadership egos, and incompatible strategic visions have become major obstacles, despite the parties sharing a similar philosophy of populism and euroscepticism. This study explores the limitations of long-term collaboration among populist forces, highlighting internal disagreements and conflicts between parties such as the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), the National Rally (RN), and the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO). These tensions not only reflect ideological differences, but also show how domestic political pressures and personal rivalries reinforce factional fragmentation. The study’s findings emphasize that without unity and consolidation, populist parties will continue to face difficulties in building a cohesive legislative influence in the European Parliament.
