Abstract

Liver and kidney organ damage is one of the problems often encountered in toxicology studies. This is due to the role of the liver and kidneys in detoxification and excretion of foreign substances that enter the body, including toxic substances. Andaliman fruit (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) is one of the plants that is often used and has various pharmacological benefits such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer. However, there are still few studies examining the toxicity of this plant. This study aims to determine the effect of 70% ethanol extract of andaliman fruit on the symptoms of toxicity in female Sprague Dawley rats. This study is an experimental study of post-test only control group design using the acute oral toxicity test method for 8 days and observed behavior, body weight, liver and kidney organ index, and liver and kidney histopathology. The results of the study using extract doses of 0,005g/kg, 0,05g/kg, 0,3g/kg, and 2g/kg showed an increase in body weight, no significant differences in liver index and kidney index between groups (p>0,05), and no significant differences in liver and kidney histopathology between groups (p>0,05).
