Abstract
Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious condition caused by the bacterium mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis). The prescribed treatment includes first-line antituberculosis drugs (ATD) such as isoniazid, rifampicin, and pyrazinamide. One notable side effect after a 6-month course of ATD therapy is hepatotoxicity. This study aimed to identify significant differences in transaminase enzyme levels before and after ATD treatment in pulmonary TB patients with concurrent type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) at RSUP Persahabatan in 2024. Conducted retrospectively, the research utilized medical records from pulmonary TB patients with comorbid type 2 DM at RSUP Persahabatan during 2024. Recorded patient characteristics included age group and gender. The dependent variable was the level of transaminase enzymes after OAT administration, while the independent variable was the OAT administration itself. Among the 99 pulmonary TB patients with comorbid type 2 DM at RSUP Persahabatan in 2024, who met both inclusion and exclusion criteria, an increase in the average value of transaminase enzymes was observed following OAT therapy. A significant difference in transaminase enzyme levels (p<0.001) was found between pre- and post-OAT administration in these patients.
