Abstract

Generalized anxiety disorder ranks second among mental disorders in Indonesia, therefore research on potential Drug Related Problems (DRPs) is necessary. Accuracy in selecting anti-anxiety medications and dosages plays an important role in the benefit-risk ratio for patients. The study was conducted on patients with generalized anxiety disorder at the Soeharto Heerdjan Hospital Outpatient Clinic in 2024. The identification of DRPs was based on the National Guidelines for Mental Health Services of the Republic of Indonesia, the International Psychopharmacology Algorithm Project, and other relevant literature. This observational study utilized retrospective medical records of patients, which were thoroughly reviewed, resulting in a total of 58 patients with 185 prescription visits. The study results showed an average of 45.22% potential DRPs in the medication selection category, with 31.89% of medications not selected in accordance with guidelines/formulary, 67.56% of inappropriate combinations (e.g., drug-drug, drug-herbal, or drug-supplement interactions), and 36.21% of duplications from therapeutic groups or inappropriate active ingredients. The average potential DRPs in the dosage selection category was 9.18%, with 15.67% of medications having too low a dosage and 2.70% having too high a dosage. The administration of anxiolytic medications and the determination of their dosages must be done with great caution and based on thorough clinical consideration, as they have the potential to cause significant side effects that could impact the patient's condition.
