Abstract

Food safety is an important issue in maintaining public health, especially in the environment of street vendors who are vulnerable to food contamination due to unhygienic management which causes the incidence of foodborne diseases to still occur. Data states that around 17% of the number of foodborne illnesses is caused by street vendors. This study used a quantitative analytic design with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all street vendors in South Bekasi District, with a sample of 110 people taken using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most traders had poor food management behavior (50.9%). The results of the bivariate test showed that knowledge (P<0.001), attitude (P<0.001), infrastructure (P<0.001), counseling (P<0.001), and training (P<0.001) had a significant relationship with food management behavior in street vendors because it had a P Value ,0.005. Therefore, more routine training and counseling are needed as well as improving sanitation facilities to encourage increased knowledge related to safer and more hygienic food management behavior.
