Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the environmentally transmitted diseases that remains a public health issue in Indonesia. One effective approach to preventing diarrhea is through the implementation of the five pillars of Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM), which include: ending open defecation, handwashing with soap, safe household drinking water and food management, proper household waste management, and domestic wastewater management. This study was conducted to assess the relationship between the implementation of the five pillars of STBM and the incidence of diarrhea among individuals aged 20 to 44 years in the working area of Kebon Jeruk Public Health Center. The study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. A total of 113 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between all STBM pillars and the incidence of diarrhea (p<0.05). In conclusion, the implementation of the five STBM pillars significantly contributes to reducing the risk of diarrhea among the productive age group. It is recommended to strengthen community-based health education and promotion programs to improve hygienic behavior and ensure the sustainable application of STBM.
