Abstract

Heart disease is a serious threat in Indonesia with a prevalence that tends to be higher in women than in men. Based on data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), there is an increase in the prevalence of heart disease as people age. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the incidence of heart disease in women in Indonesia. The study design used was cross-sectional with secondary data from interviews and measurements using the individual questionnaires and household questionnaires SKI 2023. The total sample was 186,584 and the study population was women aged ≥40 years. The prevalence of heart disease was 2,2%. Multivariate analysis showed hypertension (aPOR=4,901; 95% CI 4,357–5,513), depression (aPOR=3,266; 95% CI 2,556–4,175), history of diabetes (aPOR=2,566; 95% CI 2,145–3.068), physical activity (aPOR=2,418; 95% CI 1,556–3,757), history of miscarriage (aPOR=1,340; 95% CI 1,173–1,532), obesity (aPOR=1,190; 95% CI 1,061–1,335), fat consumption (aPOR=0,841; 95% CI 0,748–0,945), and sweet consumption (aPOR=0,761; 95% CI 0,644–0,899) has a relationship with the incidence of heart disease in women in Indonesia. Hypertension is the most dominant factor in the incidence of heart disease in women in Indonesia. It is recommended that hypertension screening programs be mandatory services in every health service accessed by women, and ECG screening programs in post-misscariage and postpartum visits.
