Abstract
Fracture is a condition marked by the loss of bone continuity due to trauma or pathological processes. Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) is a surgical procedure performed to realign fractured bones and stabilize them with internal fixation devices. One common postoperative complication following ORIF is hypothermia, caused by intraoperative exposure to low temperatures and the effects of anesthesia. The administration of warm intravenous fluids is a supportive intervention aimed at maintaining core body temperature and managing hypothermia in postoperative patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of warm intravenous fluid administration in managing hypothermia in postoperative ORIF patients. Warm intravenous fluids were administered over 15 minutes postoperatively. The results demonstrated an increase in body temperature, a decrease in shivering scores, improvement in vital signs, and a reduction in hypothermia symptoms. In the managed patient, body temperature rose from 34.9°C to 36.2°C, with the shivering score decreasing from 3 to 0. In the reviewed patient, temperature increased from 34.5°C to 36.1°C, and the shivering score dropped from 4 to 1. These findings suggest that the use of warm intravenous fluids is an effective intervention for improving hypothermia and enhancing postoperative recovery in ORIF patients.
