Abstract
Background: The elderly are individuals over the age of 60 and the inevitable final phase of life. This period is characterized by the aging process, decreased body function, and increased risk of disease. Hypertension is one of the common health problems in the elderly. Concerns about complications of hypertension can cause anxiety, which psychologically threatens the condition of the elderly. Objective:This case study aims to determine the effect of Tai Chi exercise on reducing anxiety levels in elderly individuals with hypertension. Methods: Study Case, Data were obtained through the Geriatric Anxiety Scale (GAS) questionnaire, Tai Chi exercise was performed for 1 month with a frequency of 3 times a week. Results: Managed clients showed a decrease in Geriatric Anxiety Scale scores from 30 (mild anxiety) to 16 (minimal anxiety) and resume clients showed a decrease in Geriatric Anxiety Scale scores from 32 (mild anxiety) to 18 (minimal anxiety). Therefore, Tai ChiGymnastics is proven to have an effect on reducing anxiety levels in the elderly with hypertension. Recommendation: Tai Chi exercise can be used to reduce anxiety in the elderly with hypertension. It is recommended to do it regularly three times a week for one month. Health workers should provide education so that the elderly and families can do it independently. Further research with a larger sample needs to be done to strengthen the results.
