Abstract
Background. In recent decades, the age at first marriage among women has shown a global increase. According to data from DUKCAPIL, this trend is particularly significant in several urban areas, such as the Special Capital Region (DKI) of Jakarta. The aspiration to delay marriage is closely related to internal factors such as the aspiration to pursue postgraduate education and the aspiration to achieve financial independence, which are important determinants in the decision to enter marriage. The impact of postponing first marriage for women is a disruption of fertility or reproductive health, as the quality and quantity of oocytes decline, making it more difficult to conceive. Medical students represent a group with a high tendency to delay marriage due to the length of study and academic workload, which may influence their marital decisions. Aim. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the aspiration to pursue postgraduate education and the aspiration to achieve financial independence with the intention to delay first marriage among female medical students at UPN Veteran Jakarta. Method. The study employed a quantitative associative design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected from respondents using questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, and subsequently analyzed using chi-square tests to assess the relationships between variables. Result. The analysis revealed no statistically significant relationship between the aspiration to delay first marriage and the aspiration to pursue postgraduate education (p-value = 0,405) or financial independence (p-value = 0,609). However, a significant positive relationship was found between the aspiration to pursue postgraduate education and the aspiration to achieve financial independence (p-value = 0,046). These findings highlight that education and financial factors are interrelated, although they do not directly influence the decision to delay first marriage.
