Abstract
Anime has successfully spread Japanese cultural values globally, with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba being a prime example. This research analyzes how Demon Slayer uses bricolage to represent Shintoism, and how it serves as a tool to represent Japanese culture in the era of globalization. The qualitative approach used a case study, collecting data through document observation, literature study, and netnography of anime fan communities. The results show that Demon Slayer modified oni, Shinto rituals, and nature symbolism into a simpler narrative and dynamic visuals to appeal to global audiences without losing its Japanese cultural identity. This bricolage approach in anime allows the fusion of Japanese mythology with popular narrative elements from Western culture, creating a universal appeal that reinforces Japan's position as the centre of world popular culture. The research confirms that anime, particularly Demon Slayer, is not only entertainment, but also an effective means of cultural diplomacy, introducing and maintaining Japanese cultural heritage amidst globalization. This study aims to be a reference for future research on the role of anime in representing cultural identity and cultural adaptation strategies in the global entertainment industry.
