Abstract
Hook overhead cranes play a vital role in the manufacturing industry, especially at PT X, to move heavy loads with high stability. However, a non-optimal design can increase the risk of structural failure and work accidents. This research aims to optimize the design of the hook crane using AISI 1045 steel material to improve safety and operational efficiency. The finite element method was used in this study with the help of Ansys Workbench R1 software. Simulations were performed on three loading variations: 20 tons, 22 tons, and 24 tons, to analyze the maximum stress, displacement, and safety factor. The simulation results showed that the maximum stress in the new design was below the material limit (150.15 MPa < 155 MPa), the maximum displacement of 0.13151 mm remained within the elastic limit, and the factor of safety at all loading variations exceeded 2. This indicates that the new design is safe to use up to a load of 24 tons. The conclusion of this study is that the optimized design not only meets the safety standards of PT X but also provides more reliable performance than the previous design.
