Abstract
Background: Diarrhea remains a serious health issue threatening toddlers, with high prevalence rates both globally and nationally. The primary factor influencing diarrhea incidence in toddlers is poor environmental sanitation, which facilitates the spread of bacteria causing gastrointestinal infections. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between household environmental sanitation and the occurrence of diarrhea in toddlers in the Matraman area, East Jakarta. Methods: This study uses a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. A stratified random sampling technique was employed to select 106 toddler samples from the Matraman population. Data was collected through questionnaires, observation sheets, and direct interviews, and analyzed using the chi-square statistical test. Results: The study found a significant relationship between the provision of unsafe drinking water and the occurrence of diarrhea (p-value = 0.039). Additionally, poor waste management was also significantly associated with diarrhea incidence (p-value = 0.034). However, no significant relationship was found between toilet conditions and wastewater disposal management with the occurrence of diarrhea.
