Abstract

With technological advancements, motorcycles have become the primary choice for land transportation due to their relatively low cost, fuel efficiency, and ease of use. However, the frame's strength, especially the main tube, must be analyzed to ensure rider safety and comfort. The main tube, which provides structural support, experiences significant loads and pressures during usage. This research aims to analyze the fatigue strength of the main tube in the Honda Vario 150 motorcycle frame to determine the maximum fatigue load the main tube can withstand within a safe limit and the S-N curve from fatigue test simulations. The method used in this study is the finite element method, which enables stress distribution calculations to estimate the fatigue life and safety factor of the Vario 150 motorcycle frame's main tube. The simulation results show that the Vario 150's main tube has a minimum fatigue life for loads of 1200 N, 1500 N, 1800 N, 2100 N, and 2400 N, respectively: 1 x 10⁶; 2.4645 x 10⁵; 8.1824 x 10⁴; 4.4363 x 10⁴; and 2.6105 x 10⁴ cycles. The safety factor also decreases as the load increases. The minimum safety factors for the main tube under loads of 1200 N, 1500 N, 1800 N, 2100 N, and 2400 N are 1.018; 0.814; 0.679; 0.582; and 0.503, respectively. From the fatigue simulation results, the Vario 150's main tube can only withstand 40% of the maximum load of 3000 N, which is 1200 N, with a fatigue life of 1 x 10⁶ cycles and a safety factor of 1.018.
