Abstract
Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) being the largest contributor. Managing ACS requires rapid, accurate, and efficient assessment tools to prevent worsening patient conditions. Objective: This study aims to compare the performance of the Rapid Emergency Medicine Score (REMS) and the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) in predicting mortality and ICU admission among ACS patients in the Emergency Department (ED). Methods: This research employs a quantitative study with a retrospective design and an analytical observational approach using secondary data from the medical records of RSJPD Harapan Kita from January to October 2024. Results: Of the total 319 respondents included in this study, the majority were male (243 individuals), within the middle adult age range (41–60 years) comprising 158 individuals, and had more than one comorbidity (260 individuals). The sensitivity of REMS and NEWS in predicting mortality events was identical at 93%, while their specificities were 20.1% and 30.9%, respectively. The AuROC values were REMS = 0.641 and NEWS = 0.814. Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that NEWS is a better instrument for assessing mortality events but not for ICU admission. The researchers recommend that NEWS be used by nurses or healthcare professionals as a quick instrument for predicting mortality.
