Abstract
Background: Sleep quality is one of the key indicators affecting physical and mental health, especially in the elderly. With age, the prevalence of sleep disorders tends to increase, which has negative implications for individual well-being. The elderly living in the Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 Social Home often face sleep problems caused by various factors, including declining physical condition, psychological stress, as well as influences from the surrounding environment. Purpose: This study aims to describe the quality of sleep in the elderly who live in Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 based on several factors such as age, gender, previous occupation, and marital status. Design: This study used a quantitative descriptive design. Data was collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, which is designed to evaluate sleep quality in the elderly within the past month. The study sample was taken through the total sampling method, involving 82 respondents who were selected based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: The majority of the elderly showed poor sleep quality, with 74 respondents (65.9%) experiencing the condition. Factors affecting sleep quality include age, gender, employment history, marital status, and health conditions such as the use of sleeping pills and the presence of sleep disorders. Conclusion: Sleep quality in the elderly at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 is mostly in the poor category, which has an impact on physical and mental health decline. More targeted interventions, such as physical activity promotion and stress management, are needed to improve sleep quality in this elderly group.
