Abstract

Adolescence is the phase of life between the ages of 10 and 19. It is a unique period of human development. Adolescents experience rapid physical, cognitive and psychosocial development. This impacts the way they think, feel, make decisions and interact with their surroundings, which puts them at risk of early marriage. Early marriage is still a topic of conversation among adolescents and society today, with various backgrounds for early marriage, one of which is parenting and culture. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of parenting patterns and culture to early marriage in adolescents in Tangkilsari Village, Cimanggu District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province. The study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach and involved 192 respondents selected by stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using Chi- square correlation test. The results showed that democratic and authoritarian parenting had a significant relationship with early marriage (p = 0.000 < 0.005), while permissive parenting had no significant relationship with early marriage in adolescents (p = 0.309 < 0.005). And the results show that culture has a significant relationship with early marriage (p = 0.000, or 0.336). meaning that there is a greater chance of early marriage. Suggestions for the community, especially parents, so that they can play an important role in shaping parenting patterns towards children and better understand the benefits of culture.
