Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that can lead to complications such as diabetic neuropathy and peripheral vascular disorders. One complementary therapy to prevent these complications is Diabetic Foot Massage (DFM). This study aimed to analyze the effect of DFM on blood sugar levels and Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) values in Type II DM patients. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. A total of 60 respondents were divided into two groups: an intervention group receiving DFM and a control group without any intervention. Data collection involved measuring blood sugar levels using a glucometer and ABI values using a Doppler device. The results showed that blood sugar levels in the group receiving DFM therapy significantly decreased compared to the group without therapy (p = 0.000). Additionally, the ABI values in the DFM group significantly increased compared to the control group (p = 0.000). Meanwhile, the control group showed no significant changes; blood sugar levels remained stable, and ABI values showed minimal variation. Conversely, the DFM group experienced a significant reduction in blood sugar levels and an increase in ABI values, indicating the positive effects of this therapy. In conclusion, DFM effectively reduces blood sugar levels and improves ABI values in Type II DM patients. Therefore, it is recommended as a non-pharmacological complementary therapy to improve patients' quality of life and prevent diabetes complications.
