Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is one of the biggest health problems in the world. In 2024, COPD is one of the diseases suffered by many Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of COPD in pre-departure Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in 2024. The cross-sectional study design used secondary data sources from the Integrated Hajj Computerized System for Health Sector (Siskohatkes) 2024 for all registered Hajj pilgrims. Multiple logistic regression analysis was applied. The results showed that the prevalence of COPD among this group was 0.2%. The multivariate analysis showed an increased risk of COPD in pre-departure pilgrims aged ≥ 60 years (aPOR = 4.4 (95% CI: 3.5—5.53)), male (aPOR = 3.61 (95% CI: 2.82—4.63)), had underweight BMI (aPOR = 2.37 (95% CI: 1.81—3.1)), had pre-existing respiratory disease (aPOR = 1.99 (95% CI: 1.47—2.69)), had prediabetes (aPOR = 1.29 (95% CI: 1.06—1.58)), low education level (aPOR = 1.24 (95% CI: 1.03—1.51)), and worked (aPOR = 0.77 (95% CI: 0.60—0.98)). More attention is needed to their health condition for pre-departure hajj pilgrims with these risk factors.
