Abstract

Economic growth is one of the key issues often faced by developing countries, including Indonesia. Uneven economic growth can create disparities in regional development and widen the gap in societal welfare. West Java Province, as one of the largest economic hubs in Indonesia, also encounters similar challenges. Despite its significant contribution to the national gross domestic product, economic growth in this province remains concentrated in certain areas, leaving other regions with relatively low levels of development. This study aims to examine the influence of several economic factors on economic growth in West Java Province. Economic growth in this study is used as an indicator to evaluate the success of economic development in the region. The independent variables analyzed include population growth, the open unemployment rate, and the number of transportation modes. The data covers 27 districts/cities in West Java Province over the period 2018–2023, resulting in a total of 162 observations. The analytical method applied is panel data regression, which combines time series and cross-sectional data, using Stata 17 software. Based on the analysis results, it was found that the population growth variable has a positive and significant effect, while the open unemployment rate and the number of transportation modes have a negative and significant effect on economic growth.
