Abstract
This research focuses on the design and construction of an automatic waste sorting system that can distinguish and separate organic, inorganic, and metal waste using an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The system utilizes a combination of sensors, including inductive and capacitive proximity sensors, infrared sensors, and ultrasonic sensors, to identify the type of waste and guide its sorting. Servo motors are used to direct waste into specific bins, ensuring accurate separation based on material characteristics. Testing results showed sorting accuracies of 93.5% for metal waste, 94.75% for organic waste, and 100% for inorganic waste, indicating a highly effective sorting mechanism. The system aims to enhance waste management by automating the sorting process and reducing human intervention. This innovation supports environmentally friendly practices by promoting more efficient waste separation and recycling efforts.
