Abstract
The increasing need for electrical energy and the existence of 3T (Disadvantaged, Frontier, Outermost) areas in Indonesia that have not been electrified encourages the use of renewable energy, one of which is solar energy. Solar panels have great potential to meet this need, but their output power is often not optimal due to the influence of light intensity and temperature. To overcome this, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technology is applied to maintain the performance of solar panels at maximum power points. This study aims to design and develop an MPPT type solar charge controller (SCC) using the Perturb and Observation (P&O) algorithm based on Arduino Mega2560. The research method are designing hardware, such as buck converters, as well as software that implements the P&O algorithm to control the charging battery. Testing is carried out by comparing the performance of the designed SCC MPPT with the designed SCC PWM, using a 100 WP capacity solar panel and a 12V 3,5 Ah VRLA battery as a load. The results of this research shows that SCC MPPT charge the battery faster than SCC PWM because SCC MPPT produces more power than SCC PWM. This proves that SCC MPPT is more effective in charging the battery from solar panel. Keywords : Renewable Energy, P&O, SCC MPPT, SCC PWM
