Abstract

Tamarind plant is one of the plants that can be used as traditional medicine and is widely found in Indonesia. Phenolic, flavonoid and tannin compounds in tamarind leaf extract have antioxidant potential so that they can control oxidative stress in diabetic patients. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of tamarind leaf extract on the viability of spermatozoa in diabetic male white rats () induced by alloxan. The design of this study is an experimental study with a post-test only control group design. The samples were divided into 5 groups, namely the negative control group, positive control and 3 treatment groups. The study was conducted by inducing alloxan in the positive control group and the treatment group, then giving tamarind leaf extract to the treatment group with different doses. The doses given are 75, 150 and 300 mg/KgBW. The sperm viability of the treatment group increased compared to the positive control group. The highest sperm viability in the treatment group is treatment group 3 at 27.3% with the administration of tamarind leaf extract at a dose of 300 mg/kgBW. Administration of tamarind leaf extract had an effect on the viability of spermatozoa in alloxan-induced diabetic male white rats () but was not statistically significant
