Abstract
This research investigates the deepfake phenomenon, a new type of pornography offense in Indonesia, and assesses how effective current policies are. Deepfake technology enables the use of realistically manipulated faces or bodies in pornographic content without the user's consent. However, the Pornography and ITE Laws do not specifically regulate deepfake pornography, thus creating a legal gap. This research uses a normative juridical method to examine relevant regulations and literature. The results show that the current policies are inadequate to address this issue. The existing legal gap indicates the need for policy revision. The conclusions of this study are (1) The development and characteristics of deepfake-based pornography crimes in Indonesia include facial and identity manipulation, which has the potential to harm victims psychologically and socially. (2) The effectiveness of current policies is doubtful as existing laws have not specifically regulated this crime, thus requiring updates and adjustments to create more effective protection for the community. To reduce the misuse of technology, policies and preventive measures must be changed.
