Abstract
Pityriasis Versicolor (PV) is the most common dermatophyte ibfection in Indonesian. The prevalence of PV is 50% in tropical countries and less than 1,1% in cold countries. Management using antifungal drugs can cause resistence, so other alternatives are needed as antifungals. Pineapple stump is still often considered as waste by the community even though it contains bioactive compounds that have potential as antifungals. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pineapple stem extract (A. comosus L.) concentrations of 5%, 15%, 25%, 35%, 45% in inhibiting the growth of M. furfur. This study include experimental research conducted in vitro in the laboratory with the type of research post-test group desgin only. The method used was the well diffusion method with statistical test using the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Mann-Whitney Post-Hoc test. Obeservation were made at 24 hours and continued 48 hours. The concentration that is effective in inhibiting the growth of M. furfur is 25% concentration with diameter 5,2 mm which is classified into moderate inhibition and has a significant difference with 5% concentration. The effectiveness of pineapple stump extract in inhibiting M. furfur can be influenced by bioactive compounds contained in pineapple stump.
