Abstract

Research results show that there are approximately 126 million people, or 1.72% of the global population, with atherosclerosis. The current prevalence rate is estimated at 1655 per 100,000, and is expected to exceed 1845 by 2030. The mortality rate caused by CHD caused by atherosclerosis in Indonesia is quite high, reaching 1.25 million if the Indonesian population is 250 million. One drug, simvastatin, can reduce lipid levels in the blood. However, alternative medicine with herbal plants continues to be sought, one of which is red betel leaf (Piper ornatum) which has tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and flavonoids which are secondary metabolites that can reduce blood lipid levels. Through experimental research that focuses on histopathological parameters to see the scale of progression of coronary artery atherosclerosis, 30 Wistar rats were induced with high-fat food and divided into 6 sample groups consisting of 3 control groups and 3 treatment groups given red betel leaf extract at doses of 250, 500, 750 gr/KgBB. By using Kruskal-Wallis and Post-Hoc Mann Whitney tests, the results obtained p-value> 0.05 so it is considered not to have a significant difference.
