Abstract

Epidural Hematoma (EDH) constitutes 15% of all severe head injury cases, with the highest prevalence found in males. As a medical emergency, EDH carries a varying risk of mortality. This study, therefore, seeks to examine the overall relationship between risk factors and mortality in EDH patients. This descriptive analytic study was conducted at Ananda Hospital Bekasi and Bekasi District General Hospital in 2024 using a retrospective cohort approach. The sample was collected using the total sampling technique. Out of 59 EDH patients, 30 underwent surgery, and 10 patients experienced mortality. Data analysis was performed using Chi-square tests and Fisher's exact test. Out of the total EDH cases, 10 patients (16.9%) did not survive, with the majority being male. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant correlation between mortality and factors such as extracranial hemorrhagic trauma (p = 0.013), midline shift (p < 0.001), Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score (p < 0.001), and hemoglobin levels (p = 0.006). Mortality in EDH is significantly influenced by extracranial hemorrhagic trauma, midline shift, GCS score, and hemoglobin levels. These findings underline the critical role of detailed evaluation, early detection, and swift intervention in patient care.
