Abstract
Data from the Global Stroke Fact Sheet 2022 indicate that 56% of stroke patients worldwide are women. Stroke patients with hemiparesis often struggle with a lack of independence in wearing a bra. However, the limitations of materials and the complexity of the design hinder the practical application of the current stroke-specific bra in Indonesia. Therefore, this study aims to develop an adaptive bra design for stroke patients. The creation of a bra begins with the sketching process, followed by pattern making, sewing, and finishing. The study included 9 stroke patients. The selection of participants is conducted using a purposive sampling technique. Participants then conducted a bra trial for 15 – 30 minutes. Afterwards, participants will fill out a survey questionnaire and be interviewed to evaluate donning and doffing comfort, sensation comfort, and aesthetic comfort. The most common type of stroke in respondents is ischemic stroke, with onset typically occurring between 2 to 6 months after the initial event. The most common type of movement impairment is hemiparesis dextra and all participants exhibit a spasticity pattern of grade III, with the most muscle strength is M3 (active movement, can fight gravity). The variable with the highest average score was sensation comfort, followed by donning and doffing comfort and aesthetic comfort, each with the same average score. Qualitatively, participants felt able to put on and take off the bra independently and were satisfied with the sensation and aesthetics. Participants with hemiparesis expressed satisfaction and found the bra to be helpful and suitable for daily activities.
