Abstract

Lung cancer is the type of cancer with the highest incidence in men and the second highest in women, the number of lung cancer incidences in Indonesia is increasing year by year and smoking is the main risk factor. Histopathology of lung cancer is divided into two main types, namely SCLC (Small Cell Lung Cancer) and NSCLC (Non Small Cell Lung Cancer). SCLC (Small Cell Lung Cancer) has a higher rate of proliferation and is strongly associated with smoking. This study aims to determine the relationship between smoking status and sex with histopathological types of lung cancer patients at Bhayangkara Tk.I Pusdokkes Polri Hospital in 2022-2024. This study is a quantitative study of the observational analytical type with a cross-sectional research design. Sampling used secondary data from patients medical records in total sampling with a sample of 80 patients. The data obtained was analyzed univariate by describing the frequency distribution of each variable, and bivariate to see the relationship between variables using the Chi-square test. Based on the 80 samples used, most of them were in the category of non-smoking (51.2%), male (80.0%), and had adenocarcinoma histopathological type (75.0%). Through the Chi-square test, the results of the p-value of smoking status with histopathological type of 0.040 and the p-value of sex with histopathological type of 1.000 were obtained. Data analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between smoking status and histopathological type of lung cancer, but there was no significant relationship between sex and histopathological type of lung cancer.
