Abstract

Japan suffered a major loss after the earthquake and tsunami disaster that occurred in 2011. In order to improve the economy, tourism became one of the sectors that was prioritized after the disaster that hit Japan. The Japanese government began implementing tourism policies in the New Basic Tourism Nation Plan 2012 - 2016 to attract foreign tourists in Southeast Asian countries, especially Malaysian Muslim tourists to Japan by promoting Halal tourism. The concept of Foreign Policy, National Interest and Halal Tourism is used to help explain the phenomena and objects studied. In collecting and processing data, the author uses the case study method and literature study so that the results of the study are the implementation of the policy where the Japanese government issued an Exemption of Visa Policy for Malaysian tourists; established JNTO Kuala Lumpur; Presenting the Japanese Halal Certification Agency; Muslim-friendly facilities; Providing information and publications regarding the Muslim Traveler's Guide through the official JNTO website.
