Abstract
Students who study medicine are more likely to have sleep isues compared to those who are studying other fields. Poor quality sleep may be linked to mental health problems such as anxiety. According to WHO 2021 anxiety cases surged dramatically in 2021 from 53.2 million to 76.2 million, with 51.8 million cases among women and 24.4 million among men. In Indonesia, data indicates that 63% of adolescents do not meet the required sleep quality. This study aims to explore the relationship between sleep quality and anxiety levels among first-year medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jakarta, cohort of 2023. A cross-sectional study design was used for descriptive analysis. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep quality, while the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) assessed anxiety levels. The study sampled 69 participants through random sampling, with an average age of 18.63 years. Most participants were female. Most respondents (48 or 69.9%) exhibited poor sleep quality. A significant portion of respondents (63 or 91.3%) reported low anxiety levels. The correlation between sleep quality and anxiety levels was positive but weak (r=0.204) and not statistically significant (p=0.092).
