Abstract
The momentum challenging the dominance of the US dollar in the international financial system resurfaced in 2022 when Russia faced sanctions from the West. In response to the inequality and instability caused by the dollar's dominance, China, through cooperation with BRICS, has taken various strategic dedollarization steps. This research aims to analyze China's efforts in dedollarization policies through the BRICS alliance, using a qualitative method based on secondary data, with an approach rooted in monetary policy and dedollarization theory. The results of the research indicate that China has been a key driver in several of its dedollarization policies through BRICS cooperation, such as the development of the New Development Bank (NDB), the establishment of Bilateral Swap Agreements (BSA), and the development of the Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS), all of which aim to reduce dependence on the Western-controlled global financial system. In the context of global geopolitics, China's dedollarization efforts have drawn particular attention from the United States, especially due to their potential long-term impact on dollar dominance. China's indirect leadership in BRICS demonstrates how the country is developing its dedollarization policies, particularly following the sanctions against Russia in early 2022. Although still far from rivaling the dominance of the US dollar, these steps indicate a shift towards multipolarity in the global monetary system, with the potential for significant impact on global financial dynamics in the future.
