Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by high blood sugar levels, which are caused by disorders in insulin secretion. Nowadays, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus continues to increase globally and teenagers are one of the vulnerable groups at risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus. DKI Jakarta has the highest Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus based on Doctor's Diagnosis in the Population All Ages by Province, with a figure of 2.6%. In fact, adolescents go through a puberty process that affects many hormones, including the insulin hormone, which controls blood sugar levels. The research was conducted on the target group of teenagers aged 16-18 years at SMAN 9 Jakarta. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adolescents. The sample in this study was 126 adolescents aged 15-18 years who were students in grades 10 and 11 at SMAN 9 Jakarta. The sampling technique used a stratified random sampling approach with a cross-sectional research design. The results of the chi-square test analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between stress levels (P=1.000), consumption of SSBs (P=0.417), and nutritional status (P=0.689) with the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adolescents at SMAN 9 Jakarta. For further research, it is recommended that additional examinations be carried out to support more accurate risk categorization of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
