Abstract
In its operation at sea, the ship must have economic value. The fluid flow when the ship moves will flow towards the stern and form a current. Referring to the fluid flow that occurs, the calculation of the total resistance value of the ship when the ship is operating is important because it affect the fluid flow caused and the speed of the ship. The study aims to obtain the value os ship resistance that occurs using the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) programme. The research was conducted by analysing and calculating the total resistance of the ship using a 3D model on three different variation designs (M-1, M-2, M-3) where the smallest resistance of 34,387 N at Fn 0,108. After obtaining the model with the best results, testing is carried out on the loading conditions of the ship design loading and ballast loading on the M-2 model ship, the total resistance value of the ship in full load conditions is 34,387 N. While the total resistance value in ballast load conditions is 30,347 N. In the variation of several bulbous bow widths that have been carried out, the smallest resistance value is obtained at the lowest Fn 0,108 and the largest resistance is obtained when Fn 0,282 , this occurs on ships both in full load and ballast load conditions.
