Abstract
This research aims to analyze the installation of chips and the announcement of identity as sanctions against pedophiles from the perspective of criminal law and human rights. This research utilizes normative legal research methods with a regulatory and contextual approach. The results show that the sanctions of installing chips and announcing identities for pedophilia offenders are regulated by Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning Child Protection, in the context of the objectives of criminal law in Indonesia. However, these sanctions are not in line with the principles of human rights because they violate individual rights, especially the right not to be tortured, punished, or treated cruelly, inhumanely, or in a way that is degrading to dignity and humanity. In addition, the application of chip installation is not a viable alternative to protect children from child predators because how the device works is not fully understood, and requires a large budget allocation for the technology and operators. These sanctions are imposed after offenders have already served their basic sentence, potentially resulting in double punishment. This approach is ineffective in deterring pedophile offenders, as it fails to address the root of the problem and only serves as a form of retribution without any attempt to rehabilitate the offenders.
