Abstract
Students' heavy activities tend to affect their eating patterns, sleep quality, and social media use, thus contributing to an increase in overweight and obesity rates among college students. This study aims to determine the relationship between eating patterns, sleep quality, and social media use with the incidence of overnutrition among students of the Nutrition Study Program at UPNVJ. This research used a cross-sectional study design, with a sample size of 114 respondents selected using stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through height and weight measurements, PSQI, SONTUS, and FFQ questionnaires. Chi-Square test analysis results showed significant relationships between the frequency of high-sugar food consumption (p-value = 0.009), high-fat food consumption (p-value = 0.008), low-fiber food consumption (p-value = 0.001), and high intensity of social media use (p-value = 0.028) with the incidence of overnutrition among students, and no relationship between the frequency of salt source food consumption (p-value = 0.453) and sleep quality (p-value = 0.365) with the incidence of overnutrition among students. Respondents are expected to increase their consumption of vegetables and fruits, reduce consumption of high-sugar and high-fat foods, maintain a healthy lifestyle with adequate sleep, and reduce social media use to prevent excessive weight gain among students.
