Abstract

Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.), known for their various health benefits, were processed into a dry powder form by adding drying excipients. This study aimed to analyze the effect of adding drying excipients (aerosil, lactose, talc) in ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1, each with 3 replications, on the physicochemical characteristics of Moringa leaf powder. The extraction method used was Heat Assisted Extraction (HAE). The highest total flavonoid content was found with the addition of talc (460.93 mgQE/g) at a ratio of 1:2. The loss on drying (LOD) results after adding drying excipients ranged from 4-13%, indicating moisture content exceeding the set requirements. In the compressibility test, the addition of aerosil with the variations in concentration used also exceeded the set requirements, ranging from 27%-33%, while the angle of repose tests indicated that aerosil could improve powder flow by reducing inter-particle friction. The angle of repose results for each ratio ranged from 24º to 35º. The addition of lactose and talc did not produce powders suitable for angle of repose and compressibility testing. The study concluded that drying excipients significantly affect the characteristics of moringa leaf powder with a significance value of <0.05. Aerosil showed potential in improving powder flow but did not produce compact powder.
