Abstract

Cavitation in valves is a common phenomenon in ship environments that can cause damage to piping systems and related components. Ship owners often take this cavitation problem lightly, so that valves often do not operate properly due to cavitation. This study aims to analyze the effect of using anti-cavitation technology on the cavitation phenomenon in Sea Chest Valves. The methods used include collecting field data from ships that operate routinely, as well as simulations using Valvstream software to determine the effectiveness of adding anti-cavitation trim. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of anti-cavitation trim on Sea Chest Valves with variations in pressure, temperature, sound level, and viscosity and to create a prototype valve with anti-cavitation trim installed. Simulation analysis shows that pressure drop, temperature increase, high sound level and high viscosity as indicators of cavitation can be reduced by adding anti cavitation. This study contributes to understanding the cavitation mechanism in Sea Chest Valve applications on ships and provides recommendations for the development of anti-cavitation technology in the future. The practical implications of this study are the potential to improve the reliability and service life of piping systems on ships, as well as reduce the occurrence of cavitation.
