Abstract
AC casing is one of the accessory components in trains. In the train AC casing there are components consisting of a number of frames. This optimization was carried out to obtain better AC casing frame strength caused by air resistance. The optimization process was carried out using Solidworks software which was used for design, and Ansys Workbench R1 software to carry out analysis. The simulation was carried out with 7 types of slope degrees, namely 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80. Based on the simulation results, it was found that the amount of drag pressure decreased significantly along with the decrease in the degree of slope of the front cover. The result of a cover slope of 30 is the optimal design because it has a minimum drag force, total deformation and maximum stress when compared to other forms of cover slope design. In this research, it was found that the maximum deformation and stress decreased by around 97,35% with the total deformation after optimization being 0,000449 mm from the initial design of 0,0166 mm and the maximum stress after optimization being 1,0152 MPa from the initial design of 24,739 MPa and the safety factor value decreasing from initially 8,6 to 15.
