Abstract

The background of this research is the many cases of ship accidents in the form of ships sinking due to overloading factors on ships so that the ship experiences overdraft or the height of the ship's water draft exceeds the maximum water draft that has been set and causes the ship to sink. From these many incidents, the losses incurred are not only material losses but also result in many casualties, both deaths and injuries. This study aims to create a prototype of a tool in the form of a sensor that is expected to minimize the occurrence of overloading on ships. The research method includes literature studies, ship data used in the study, assembly and installation steps for the tool, and data collection on tool trials. The results of the study showed that the sensor could work well as planned, from all the experiments carried out the level of sensor accuracy was considered quite accurate because from all the average values read on the water level sensor in each water draft height experiment, the average percentage difference in the actual draft height and the draft height in the calculation was below 1%. This research adds insight into tools that can improve shipping safety and can be a reference for development in further research related to tools to minimize the occurrence of overloading on ships. Keywords: Overload on ships, overdraft on ships, water level sensor.
