Abstract

Sepsis is one of the most critical diseases with high morbidity and mortality rates. Early identification is very important to reduce these high rates. Various scores have been developed to predict the incidence and mortality of sepsis patients. This study aims to compare the accuracy of the quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) and the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS2) in detecting sepsis, mortality, and ICU admissions in patients with infections in the Emergency Department (ED). The type of research used was an analytic observational study with a retrospective approach with secondary data from the medical records of RSUD Tarakan from January - March 2024. Of the total 105 respondents included, 60 (57.1%) of them were adults, 54 (51.4%) were female, and 62 (59%) had more than one comorbidity. The sensitivity for qSOFA, and NEWS2 for sepsis diagnosis was 49.2% and 69.2%, respectively. The specificity values were 87.5% and 67.5%. The AuROC values for detected sepsis were NEWS2 = 0.739 and qSOFA = 0.716. The NEWS2 score is superior in detecting sepsis compared to qSOFA. However, based on AuROC, NEWS2 and qSOFA scoring have similar prognosis in diagnosing sepsis.
