Abstract

The trade balance is considered to have an influence on international trade between Indonesia and Japan. In a country, international trade includes imports and exports that need to be recorded to provide information on the condition of the country's trade deficit or surplus. In this study, the trade balance has mostly experienced a trade deficit, using a sample from 1992–2022. The research uses the Error Correction Model (ECM) analysis method. The ECM method analyzes elements over long-term and short-term periods. The results of the research show that GDP yields have a significant impact in the long term but are not significant in the short term due to public demand for consumer purchasing power. In addition, export activities also have a significant long-term impact on trade balance sheets in order to see whether the trade balance is in a surplus or deficit position. Furthermore, exchange rates on long-term and short-term estimates have a significant influence caused by the increasing purchasing power of the business, resulting in increased output. Meanwhile, foreign investment, which is the main source of funding, has a significant impact on Indonesia's trade balance with Japan in both long-term and short-term estimates.
