Abstract
Indonesians suffer from a high prevalence of cardiovascular disorders, including hypertension. The prolonged duration of hypertension treatment and its high costs are related to the patient’s economic status. In the treatment of stage one hypertension, there are several alternatives therapeutic options. Various alternative drugs in antihypertensive will cause differences in cost. Pharmacoeconomic studies are needed due to the differences in antihypertensive costs. Finding the lowest possible price for treating hypertensive outpatients at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital with amlodipine and kandesartan was the goal of this cost minimization study. Secondary data provides information that is used in observational research., such as patient billing information and medical records. The study was conducted on 72 patients. Antihypertensive drug costs, doctor’s fees, and supporting cost were the cost components studied. The result of the study showed that there was a significant difference in total direct medical cost for amlodipine and candesartan monotherapy (p value≤0,001). The average total direct medical costs of amlodipine treatment is lower which about Rp347.706,- while candesartan is Rp365.450,-. Amlodipine monotherapy treatment is more cost minimize compared to candesartan.
