Abstract
This final project designs, makes tools, and presents an analysis of the performance of the boost converter topology used in this study in charging solar panel-based electric vehicle batteries using an Arduino Uno microcontroller. Boost converters are given several variations in diameter and inductor wire windings in order to determine the optimization and highest efficiency of the performance of the boost converter used for charging. This circuit uses Arduino Uno to generate and control pulse width modulation (duty cycle) to increase the desired output voltage. The wire variations used are inductors with 30 turns, 60 turns, and 90 turns using a diameter of 1 mm, and inductors with 60 turns using diameters of 0.5 mm, 1 mm, and 1.5 mm. The boost converter circuit made can increase the maximum voltage by 97.0 V (without load) and 47.5 V (with load) and the maximum voltage generated by the solar panel in this study is 21.3 V. The efficiency obtained in this study ranges from 62.72% to 69.05%. The highest efficiency of the inductor variation used in this study is the inductor with a variation of 60 turns at a diameter of 1.5 mm of 69.05%. The boost converter circuit made in this study gets low efficiency due to using a simple boost converter topology and the amount of power loss obtained.
