Abstract
VSAT Technology or Very Small Aperture Terminal is a communication network that uses satellites as its communication medium to send and receive data. This technology can also be an effective solution in building infrastructure in remote areas in Indonesia. Unfortunately, this VSAT technology has several weaknesses, such as being highly susceptible to weather disturbances and having significant propagation delays. Therefore, research is needed to determine the impact of weather changes during busy hour on the Quality of Service (QoS) of VSAT that uses Ku frequency band. This research was conducted on a VSAT located in Serua and carried out during busy hour on working days for 5 days for each weather condition. The network quality parameters monitored include delay, jitter, throughput, bandwidth, and packet loss. Axence Nettools and Wireshark software were used in finding these parameter values. TIPHON standardization was used to determine the network quality for each parameter. In sunny weather conditions, the average values for each parameter were 600.2 ms for delay, 3.98 ms for jitter, 2 Mbps for throughput, 4,5% for bandwidth, and 7.6% for packet loss. In rainy weather conditions, the average values for each parameter were 567.4 ms for delay, 5.38 ms for jitter, 1.82 Mbps for throughput, 4,94% for bandwidth, and 31.2% for packet loss. Based on the analysis conducted, weather does affect network quality, especially in terms of packet loss.
